Homemade Love Lotion

Things are about to get a little frisky in here….

Today, I give to you my favorite all natural, homemade lubricant recipe.

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, I may add šŸ˜‰

  Homemade Lubricant Recipe | PrimallyInspired.com

What’s wrong with most lubricants?

Have you ever checked the back of a lubricant bottle?! Most are filled with toxic chemical ingredients that can harm your health and even your fertility.

Toxic chemical lubricants can:

  • Increase vaginal infections
  • Disrupt hormone production
  • Feed candida which increases yeast infections
  • Kill vaginal flora
  • Decrease fertility

(Read more about why lubricants are so harmful HERE and HERE)

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want any of those toxic ingredients down in those parts.

So here’s my super simple recipe for my homemade lubricant. Not only is this homemade lubricant recipe all natural and safe, but it’s filled with nourishing ingredients that are actually beneficial to your skin and healthy for your nether-regions. This also makes the best sensual massage lotion. And I might add that I think it would make a great gift to give to your hunny!

Love Lotion Recipe

Ingredients:

1/3 cup coconut oil (Find HERE)

1 tablespoon beeswax (Find HERE)

5 drops Sensual Synergy Blend Essential Oil (Find HERE)

Directions:

Melt the coconut oil and beeswax on your stovetop until melted using a double boiler. You can just use a pot of water and a glass measuring cup, too ā€“ just put the coconut oil and beeswax in the measuring cup and put the measuring cup in the pot of water.

Once melted, add essential oil. Remove from heat and let cool completely until hardened. You may need to put it in the refrigerator to harden a bit if your house is above 76 degrees. It’s very important for the coconut oil to be hard because it will not whip if it’s liquid.

Once hardened, whip your coconut oil until it’s light and fluffy. I use an immersion blender (THIS one), but a stand or hand mixer works great, too.

Store in a glass jar – I love and use THESE jars for this homemade lubricant recipe. This recipe will keep for as long as the expiration date on your coconut oil (usually over a year or more!)

*Important Note: Coconut oil can break down latex and may make latex condoms ineffective.

Experiment!

I also encourage you to get creative and use my recipe as inspiration for some fun homemade lubricant recipe experimentation:

Want to make it edible? Try adding a little honey and peppermint like THIS recipe.

Want to create a yummy dreamsicle flavor? Add a little honey and some orange and vanilla essential oil.

I think you should add a note to NOT use it if you use condoms for birth control. Oils cause latex to breakdown fairly rapidly.

please forgive me if I missed it. I have read 3 times and do not see at what point you add essential oil to recipe. Can you share when to do that please?
Thank you for this awesome idea and recipe!

thank you for this. I have been looking for something with no chemicals.

Do you think YL Sensation would be ok instead of Sensual Synergy? Thank you šŸ™‚

I followed the recipe exactly and all I have is a big mess!!! I can’t get it off my hands or kitchen tools!! What did I do wrong???

I LOVE this idea!! I wonder if this would work if you make it, after whipping it (or even before) into drops. I’ve seen a post about making coconut “dots” to use in oil pulling. It makes it easier to get just enough without “contaminating” the rest of it. I think basically you just melt it, let it harden a bit, then put, say, in a plastic baggie and cut off one corner. Then squeeze out onto wax paper, put into fridge to set, and then store them in a jar.

Wow, that is such a neat idea! I’ve never heard of that before. I want to try it!!

Great idea but coconut oil melts when it gets hot. I have a jar on the back of the stove for cooking and it is never solid past June and I live in Michigan when June is not the warmest month out there. We use plain coconut oil and put it in a ketchup / mustard / condiment squeeze bottle and keep it by the bed.

i want to try this, but i have hygiene/ health concerns of using this as a vag. lubricant. is it okay to use it for that as well as for skin massage. is it greasy/oily? do i need to put a towel down?
also could doterra whisper essential oil be added for the scent instead of your recommended synergy oil? thanks

We use plain coconut oil in a squeeze bottle. I am allergic to everything out there. My doctors say it is safe to use. We put a towel down because it does get messy but he likes a lot of lube. šŸ™‚

Do you know how this potentially affects fertility? I can only use the preseed lubricant anyway (every other lubricant gives me a yeast infection), but before I try this I’d want to know if it would get in the way of my hubby and I attempting to get pregnant.

You mentioned not to use this on latex condoms. The problem is, ALL latex condoms on the market (that I can find) have lubrication! Isn’t the point of making it myself to avoid the lubrication?

I am surprised that there aren’t non-latex/non-lubricant condoms out there. People are allergic to those!

The one you linked to has lubrication.

    Any ideas?

      Rebecca,

The lubrication on latex condoms is not oil based. I’m not sure what it is (probably some petroleum by-product), but that’s how there can be lubricant on latex condoms.

And actually, there ARE non-latex condoms out there. There are of course the natural lamb skin condoms, but if one is using condoms for disease prevention, you shouldn’t use lamb skin condoms because they are porous. If you want a non-latex condom, they do make them. Instead of latex, they use polyisoprene. Several of the larger condom manufacturers have now jumped onto the wagon of latex-free.

I like the idea of whipping the oil, good tip. I am curious though, with other body oils that I have mixed for my skin, they turn to liquid when it is warm, and then back to solid. Does the beeswax stop the coconut oil from doing this? Does the whipped stuff revert back to liquid? Great idea, thanks

This is great!you actually don’t even need the beeswax! If you want the warming sensation you can do organic vegetable glycerine. It gets warm with use and with blowing.sorry if tmi!lol! This combinaton will not affect fertility other than to make things much more moist and cozy feeling which makes it easier for sperm to make their way upward.

I would HIGHLY recommend that you test this on the inside of your wrist or thigh before even thinking of putting it on your “parts.” Many people are sensitive to coconut oil and/or essential oil(s), especially cinnamon. I would not want it be inside of me….

My hubs and I have been using straight coconut oil for this purpose for a long time…and I can say I think it promotes vaginal health….it has natural cleansing properties and I can truthfully say I’ve never gotten an infection since we have been using it…something I used to get periodically “pre-coconut”…. it also works better IMO than anything on the market. I’ll have to try out the cinnamon or veggie glycerin…

Can you tell me the pH of coconut oil. Vaginal pH is any where from 3.5 to 4.5. It’s important to keep that in balance (and in mind) when considering what goes inside your lady parts. Any interruption in this balance is an infection waiting to happen.

    • Kelly from Primally Inspired

Hi Mickie, pH cannot be determined using an oil. pH is a measure of hydrogen ion concentration in an aqueous (water based) solution. Since there is no water in coconut oil, you can’t accurately measure the pH of it. For the super geeks needing more info about that, look up hydronium ions.

Coconut oil contains caprylic acid and lauric acid which are all well documented to prevent yeast, bacteria and is considered an effective anti fungal, too. Many people use it to clear vaginal infections and other infections in the body.

      Hope that helps!

Cool idea! My husband and I have used Good Clean Love lubrication for four years (aloe-based), and like it, but it would be fun to make one’s own. Thanks for sharing!

I’m allergic to coconut, do you have a suggestion for a substitute?

  17. Avatar

Can you add a suggested combination of single oils? I use Doterra so this blend isn’t an option for me. Thanks!

THANK YOU for sharing! This is wonderful! First time with no pain in months. I also made suppositories to use on a daily basis, and infiused the coconut oil with calendula first.

I’m curious to how messy this is using coconut oil when it comes to the bed sheets?

Planning to make some for my wife and I

We love this recipe so much! I use Doterra passion oil blend in ours.

Do you think I could substitute candelilla wax for the beeswax to make a vegan version of this? Maybe with a little less wax since it’s not normally a 1:1 substitute in other recipes?

  22. Avatar

Question: can I make it without essential oil?

  23. Avatar

Can I make this without beeswax?

Hi, I’ve been thinking of making some of this when my tube of K-Y warming lube is gone and was wondering if I used my silicon molds that have 1 teaspoon wells for chocolate. If I made them and would just use one at a time like a vaginal suppository or would it be too much in a teaspoon size? What do you think about how much to use per session? I’m also thinking of making some with coconut oil that I infuse with cannabis.

    • Kelly from Primally Inspired

Hi Maggie, I think that’s such a great idea! I think the 1 teaspoon would be perfect for this. Everyone is a bit different and you’d use the same amount as you would with the K-Y.

I love the idea of your cannabis infused coconut oil, too!

Thank you for this great recipe, I cant wait to get the ingredients and make this one myself šŸ™‚ is it the same consistency as regular lubricant?
