Firming Eye Cream Recipe

Firming DIY Eye Cream - www.PrimallyInspired.com

Hi Everyone!  Jenni from Jenni Raincloud here!  Some of you might remember me from my post on a Vitamin C serum.  I’m a huge believer in DIY skin care.  Unfortunately we live in a time where everything we consume is filled with chemicals, and if it’s not, it’s outrageously expensive.  I created my own skin care so that I could avoid anything that wasn’t 100% natural.  I love to come up with new recipes and just recently I posted a recipe for an Eye Firming Serum-I love this easy recipe-it’s a quick fix for wrinkles around the eyes.  The only thing about this serum is that it’s a gel, which isn’t very moisturizing.  I decided to formulate a recipe for an eye CREAM-this eye cream is full of anti aging ingredients that will help long term but also the cream contains caffeine which will tighten and firm short term!  Basically this cream covers all the basis!

DIY Eye Cream

This easy DIY is full of goodness for your eyes.  You could not go to a department store or spa and get this amazing of an eye treatment.  I honestly believe that.  If you could-you would spend an arm and a leg!!!

Rosehip oil– Rosehip Oil is one of the most popular oils for anti aging.  It penetrates deeply into the lower layers of the skin where it regenerates cells and increases collagen production. It is rich in vitamin C, Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids and retinoic acid, which studies have shown it brightens and tightens skin!   It also helps restore skin’s elasticity, fade age spots, reduce broken capillaries, and balance oil glands.

Green Tea  contains caffeine.  It is full of antioxidants and has anti inflammatory properties to help soothe and calm skin. Caffeine will actually tighten skin, too! I’m sure you’ve heard of cellulite treatments containing caffeine, that’s because caffeine is a diuretic. It will dehydrate fatty cells so that water will disappear from the surface of your skin. Caffeine is a vasodilator, which means it tightens skin.

Carrot Seed essential oil contains a HUGE amount of antioxidants, vitamin C and Vitamin K.  Carrot seed oil has been found to enhance the body’s immune response to UV rays, which can decrease skin damage from UV exposure.  Carrot Seed oil is healing and rejuvenates skin cells. In fact, carrot seed oil helps to heal eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis because of its ability to stimulate cell growth and repair damaged skin.  It is a common ingredient in eye treatments.

Lavender essential oil is my favorite oil-it is calming, healing and moisturizing as well as anti fungal, antibacterial and antiseptic!  Why I add it in this cream is for the smell.  It has a heavenly smell that cuts the carrot smell!

Sweet almond oil is full of vitamins D, E, B1, B2 and B6, calcium, potassium, and magnesium.   Almond Oil is light and absorbs easily.  It helps to purge the pores of impurities therefore helping clear skin.  It has anti inflammatory qualities.  Using sweet almond oil daily can greatly reduce dark circles under the eyes as well as scars and dark spots.  It helps to renew skin cells and rev up circulation.  It is wonderful at nourishing dehydrated skin. I believe it is one of the top (if not #1) carrier oils for reversing the signs of age.  In fact, it is said to be the closest to the oil found in a babies skin!

Vitamin E helps fight wrinkles and has a firming effect on the skin.

Homemade Eye Cream Recipe

Ingredients you’ll need:

1/4 cup green tea (find it HERE)

1/8 tsp. NeoDefend (find it HERE)

1 tbsp. rosehip seed oil (find it HERE)

1 tbsp. sweet almond oil (find it HERE)

1/4 tsp. vitamin E (find it HERE)

1 tsp. emulsifying wax (find it HERE)

1 drop carrot Seed essential Oil (find it HERE)

3 drop lavender Essential Oil (find it HERE)

Quick steps to make:

1. Brew a cup of green tea.

2. Fill two medium sauce pans about half way full of water.

3. Place a glass bowl with a spout in each pot and turn on stove to medium heat.

4. Add wax, rosehip seed oil, vitamin E oil and sweet almond oil to one pot.

5. Add green tea and NeoDefend to the other pot.

6. Heat both mixtures until the emulsifying wax has totally melted.

7. Check temperatures of both pots with a thermometer like this one.

**BOTH mixtures must be the same temp before you combine them or your cream won’t set.**

8.  When both your oil mixture and water mixture reach around 130 degrees, pour your water mixture into your oil mixture.

Eye Firming Cream - DIY eye cream

9.  Use a hand held blender (like this one) and mix your cream.

10. Continue to mix periodically (every 10 minutes or so)  until you notice that water is no longer separating on the bottom.  This tends to take about 30 minutes to an hour.

11. Once fully mixed, add essential oils then pour into containers.

This recipe makes 4 ounces.  This cream is light and can be used morning and night.  It works great under make up.

Making creams can be tricky, but they are so worth it!  This cream is rich and fluffy and will absorb quickly and penetrate into the deeper levels of your skin.  Taking care of the delicate skin around the eye is vital in preventing wrinkles and fading lines that have already appeared.  Always be very gentle around your eyes.  Dab a small amount of cream around the eye being careful not to push or pull on the skin.  I have most of my wrinkles in between my eye brows and upper nose so I use this cream there as well.  Feel free to apply this cream where you need it most.  I just know you’re gonna love the results, not to mention how good it feels to take your skin care into your own hands and DITCH THE CHEMICALS!

As usual, it’s always a pleasure to be a guest here at Primally Inspired!  I hope you enjoyed this recipe!  You can find more DIY skin care recipes and tips at www.jenniraincloud.com

UPDATE:  Since I have shared this recipe, I have come across new information about a more efficient way to preserve homemade creams.  After doing LOADS of research, I have settled on adding a legit preservative called NeoDefend.  NeoDefend is used as a preservative in certified organic cosmetics and beauty products.  It is gentle and does not contain propylene glycol or formaldehyde.  You can read more about NeoDefend HERE

Cool, this sounds awesome! Question–I already have beeswax, can I use that instead of the emulsifying wax?

Seems like most of my pins are from you! ThankUmuchly!

The recipe calls for 1/4 C of green tea. When I click the link it takes me to green tea bags. Are we to use tea bags or loose leaf tea? It says 1/4 C. is that the amount of water or tea?

    • Avatar

Missy, Hi! I used tea bags. I boiled my water, added 1/4 cup in my glass bowl on the stove and put my tea bag in to steep while my other mixture heated up. If you don’t have green tea bags you can always just use distilled water and 1 tsp. of coffee. I hope this clears it up-check out my pic of my 2 mixtures-you can see how I have my tea bag.
      Thanks! Jenni

Thank you so much for this recipe, it worked perfectly! I had to make some adjustments for different preservatives but it looks like moisturiser!

  4. Avatar

Thanks 🙂 I hadn’t noticed the tea bag the first time I read this article. I think I got it now!

  5. Avatar

Which ingredient do you think is most crucial for puffiness? Thanks much for this. Pinned :)!

    • Avatar

Adrienne, Hi! No you can’t substitute borax for emulsifying wax-e.w. is vital in getting the water and oil to mix into a cream consistency. I would say this should last 3 mos. If you refrigerate it, it should last a bit longer, but you don’t have to store it in the fridge.

  6. Avatar

Just as a follow up, I was asking b/c I tried a cream with caffeine (coffee) in it once and it really didn’t work so I am wondering if this might still work. Thanks much!

Thank you. I need this so badly!

    hi jenni
instead of rosehip seed oil what else can i use? i have about 60 different essential oils including rose absolute….
please give me an alternative to rosehip seed oil….can i use more carrot seed oil? or some other oil…..
    thanks

Hi Mim, I’m not Jenni obviously but I thought I would clear up that rose hip seed oil is not an essential oil. Its a carrier oil – you can find it on amazon or at mountain rose herbs, and often at your local health food store.

    • Avatar

Mim, Hi, you can use almond oil if you’d like to omit the rosehip. Rosehip is excellent for wrinkles and fading age spots but almond oil is my 2nd favorite oil for aging skin.

Thanks for the recipe! I’ve been looking for something like this and can’t wait to try it. Couple of quick questions: does the cream need to be stored at a certain temperature (room temp, in the fridge, etc.) and about how long is the shelf life on this cream. Thanks so much!

    • Avatar

Michelle, this cream should last about 3 mos. You don’t need to keep it in the fridge but you can for a longer shelf life!!
      Thanks, Jenni

I made this recipe exactly as written and it molded at around 6 weeks at room temperature. So disappointing to open my little jar to find black spots on top!

        • Avatar

Mine also molded very quickly. I’m wondering if a squeeze tube would work better because that would not require the hands to dip into the mixture.

        • Avatar

Hi. Was this the original version with citric acid or the updated one with NeoDefend? I’d like to make some as a present but I would want it to last a bit longer than 6 weeks.

          • Avatar

You can get airless pump containers online which keep the product totally away from air. They are a bit pricey but will keep the product more sanitary over the long haul.

  10. Avatar

Can you use ascorbic acid in play of the citric acid in your firming eye cream blend

    • Avatar

Connie, that is an excellent question-I can not find an answer to it, the citric acid is the preservative and I’ve never heard of l.ascorbic acid preserving but it makes sense since they seem very similar. If I come across an answer I will reply again!
      Thanks, Jenni

Could you put this in your etsy shop for purchase? Thanks!

        Hi Jenni
Any chance this is getting close to being on your etsy site. While I do make many things from scratch. The time and cost I would have to put into this while being a stay at home mom to 4.5 year old triplets is challenging. So, wanted to check and see if you have it on there yet?
        THank you!

Can I buy this from you instead of making it? I really do not have the time or patience to make this, but I do like the idea of how natural it is. I have very very sensitive skin with a small amount of rosasea.
    thanks so much!

Julianna, I am planning to have it in my Etsy shop asap-I am waiting for packaging and when it is ready for sale I will post it on my FB page-https://www.facebook.com/pages/Jenni-Raincloud/1402559126630346

    How long does this keep?

  14. Avatar

I love the idea of making my own cream! I have never used anti-aging products before for fear of what would happen when I stopped using them. I figure the wrinkles would come back rapidly (& maybe even more wrinkles than before) since anti-aging products falsely “healed” them. Whether that is true or not, would this cream require continual use or would I be able to stop using it after a while without any reversal of what the cream accomplished? I’m not even sure if this makes sense! Thanks for any info on this!

    • Avatar

Hi Arti! I think I answered your question on jenni raincloud.com but just in case-this cream contains caffeine which is a “quick fix” for plumping up wrinkles. While it won’t do any harm or make you worse off then you were, it won’t fix wrinkles permanently. That’s why I added Rosehip, Vitamin E, carrot oil and almond-they will truly nourish your skin and work long term.
      Thanks, Jenni

I think I missed something. When and where do I add the emulsifier?
    4. Add wax, rosehip seed oil, vitamin E oil and sweet almond oil to one pot.
    5. Add green tea, coffee and citric acid to the other pot.
    6. Heat both mixtures until the emulsifying wax has totally melted.
    Thanks

  17. Avatar

Hi can you please tell me how I should store this and how long it will keep for? Thank you.

  18. Avatar

Thanks for the recipe, I purchased the few ingredients I didn’t own (because I love making this stuff, I had most on hand already) and I just made this! Bit tricky to get all that glorious cream off the stick blender and back into the jar and THEN into the jars I had ready, but other than that it went great! I used a meat thermometer and it actually worked fine. I doubled the oils (I always double the oils, I am always incredulous at how little works for other people, it never seems to affect me unless I add more). I must say, putting it on, it feels and smells like an expensive spa! I wonder if that’s the carrot seed oil, as its the only product I’ve never used before. Excited to try it over the next few weeks!

    • Avatar

Ali-I’m so glad you like it! I think the carrot seed oil puts some people off because the carrot smell is so strong! I love the feel of this cream-that’s always my goal-to provide an alternative to high end products!
Thanks again for replying to everyone’s questions!
      Jenni

Can you use borax instead of emulsifying wax? Also, how long does this store? Should we keep it in the fridge?

  20. Avatar

The Vitamin E has soy in it so I went on line and cannot seem to find an oil verses capsule that does not have soy. Does anyone have an suggestions for this. Thank you!

  21. Avatar

Ok the first time I read this recipe a few day ago it had coffee and green tea in it. Did it change?

    • Avatar

Juanita, yes it did have coffee. I omitted it because I had no idea how quickly coffee goes rancid! In order to prolong the shelf life it had to go. Making a cream can take some effort, it only lasting a week wasn’t going to work!
      Thanks, Jenni

      • Avatar

Oh no! I hope mine is ok cause I used both! I have actually given it to two friends (4 oz is A LOT of eye cream, so it makes sense to share) and they both love it. I made this close to three weeks ago now and the smell and appearance haven’t changed, so here’s hoping! I actually just bought organic oranges too with the intend if dehydrating the skin and powdering it, to add to the cream as I put it on each night. Will keep you posted!

  22. Avatar

Do you leave the mixture on the stove after you combine the two, or remove from heat?

  23. Avatar

    Hi Jenni,

My biggest problem is puffiness. By taking out the coffee does that reduce the effectiveness in that area?? Or is other ingredients working on that in the cream?? Will the cream still work with puffiness?

    Thank you

    Suzanne

  24. Avatar

I’d love to try making this without having to buy a pound of emulsifying wax. Any chance coconut oil might work? Thought I’d ask before I give it a try…

  25. Avatar

I made this recipe, LOVE IT!! I love the smell and the light, soothing texture. However, after a day or so, the liquid started to separate onto the bottom of the jar. Everything seemed to have set up properly when I first made it, would whipping it again with a hand mixer fix this or mess it up? Do you think it would be best to do when it’s cold or room temperature? If not, I can just shake it before each use, I love it anyway!! Thanks!!

  26. Avatar

Do you have any other suggestions instead of oils. Beyond sad at the fact that oils actually make my eyes puffy – am guessing I am allergic to olive oil, sweet almond oil, and coconute oil – these are the ones I’ve tried. Do u have any suggestions for sensitive eyes?

  27. Avatar

For all the ladies that have posted a reply, how long before results are seen?

  28. Avatar

Maybe someone can answer this who has done it but how long do you mix it for? I realize you mix it very 10 min or so but how long do you mix it each time? Mine is still la water consistency that is why I ask. Thanks!

  29. Avatar

Can u use this on ur face too plz reply soon

  30. Avatar

Hi! I am dying for all the ingredients to arrive this week so I can make this!!! Many of my friends and family are waiting impatiently for me to make this so I can give it to them!

As with all homemade products or changing ones skin care regimen, you should give it about a month or so to really see how it works. So my question is… it’s been about a month or so since this was posted, do you still like it? Is there anything you would change?

  31. Avatar

Do you ever use tallow in any of your recipes for face cream?

  32. Avatar

I used this recipe and got good results. More info on eye cream for dark circles http://www.cafemom.com/journals/read/1701517/Eye_Cream_For_Dark_Circles they also offer few methods and advise.

    Hi, Jenni:
Thank you for the recipe. My eye cream did not turn out as well. It took about 3 hrs of using a mini hand mixer to produce a light mousse, instead of a cream. Possibly, the RPM was not as great. Also, it molded in less than a week, even after boiling all the containers and cleaning all my work surfaces with bleach water. However, the eye cream water and oil phase did blend together after 42 mins of mixing, as described in your instructions.

I think in my area, a water and oil mix will not last long. I will try steeping and straining the green tea in oil to see if that works and extends shelf life. Will keep you posted.
    Thanks !
    Martita :o)

  34. Avatar

Just finished making this with a few alterations…. Used some tallow in it and some tamanu oil. First impression is good but not sure how it will last or if it will set up too hard…. Next will have some argon oil in it.

  35. Avatar

Hi what should I store this in and how long will it keep? It’s hounds like others have had a hard time with the cream setting up? What is the best trick for getting it to set up?

  36. Avatar

Hi Jenni, I am in the process of ordering my ingredients for this eye cream and i was wondering if ‘Meadowfoam seed oil’ could be added or used to replace the almond oil? I am 47 and have tried every available store bought creams until now, Ive had enough of chemicals and so excited to try your recipe, just love your recipes. Thanks, Fiona xx

  37. Avatar

Additionally, would it be ok to add DMAE powder to the recipe please?

  38. Avatar

    Hi There,

I was wondering if you know of or could recommend a pre-made cream base to mix the EOs into? I have the EOs but not the other materials so before I set-out buying them I thought would ask about pre-made alternatives.

    Thanks for the input!

  39. Avatar

This recipe looks awesome and will definitely try it because my under-eye circle is one of my beauty problem after becoming a mom. Thank you for sharing this great article.

  40. Avatar

Hi Jenni, I finished making this wonderful eye cream 3 hours ago, it smells and feels very good on the skin, but it turned a bit liquidly. can you please advise. thanks.

  41. Avatar

So I started getting wrinkles under my eyes ugghhh. So got the Somaluxe Moisturizer due to the reviews but was skeptic. I put it under my eyes in the morning when I took a shower and waited for it to try maybe 5 mins and then put my own lotion on it. I started seeing results in 2 weeks not one day like someone say.

But it’s been almost 2 months and I have no wrinkles under my eyes. Not sure how it gets rid of them? I am guessing the Somaluxe Moisturizer plumps your skin up somehow but it’s got me hooked and I’ll continue to use it. Hope this helps someone.

  42. Avatar

    Hi Jenni,

I bought all the ingredients online but forgot to get the lavender oil, can I make the eye cream without it? Can’t wait to make it!

  43. Avatar

Can’t wait to try this but have a question for you. I am allergic to caffeine, in food/drink as well as on my skin. Tried a commercial eye product with caffeine and it made my eyeballs hurt! I know, weird— but I have decaf green tea and was wondering if that tea had other properties besides the ones from caffeine that will do the job. I’ll try it anyway and report back.

    Thanks

Do you leave the mixture on the stove after you combine the two while you mix, or do you remove from the heat?

    Thanks
    Marianne

    • Avatar

Hi Maryanne. I was wondering this myself. I went ahead and mixed them on the stove for twenty minutes or so, until I noticed that a drop that fell on the counter was setting up. I removed it and blended some more away from heat. The cream set, but it’s not white like the picture, but yellow. It’s just a guess, but that makes me think maybe I wasn’t supposed to blend it over heat.

  46. Avatar

Hi everybody – maybe someone who has had luck with the cream would answer my question? Do you leave the mixture on the stove after you combine the two while you mix, or do you remove from the heat?

    Thanks a lot

    Marianne

    • Avatar

Hi Maryanne. I was wondering the same thing. It wasn’t clear in the recipe. I’m making it now, and I’m just leaving it on the stove. I hope I’m not ruining it by doing so.

I’m allergic to tree nuts (almond oil) can I just leave that out or use olive oil instead?

  50. Avatar

I made a double batch of this cream about a month ago and all of them have mold. I sell products and this short time won’t work for me. I make and sell other creams and lotions and have never had this happen, even after several months. Do you know what it is in the recipe that causes this to happen? I have never used citric acid or green tea before. You said the citric acid was a preservative. I would like to pinpoint the cause because I do like the recipe. Thanks

  51. Avatar

I’m not Jenni but I noticed she hasn’t addressed the mold issue before so likely isn’t going to now. Citric acid is not a preservative. Any time you make a product using water, or water based ingredient such as aloe vera, you must use a real preservative. Citric acid, vitamin E, grapefruit seed extract….are NOT preservatives. I mention those in case anyone else comes up with them. Providing a recipe like this and not including valid, proven information about preservatives is very irresponsible. Someone is going to get sick and if you are selling these you must, must, must start using a true, reliable preservative such as Phenonip or Liquid Germall Plus. You’re very liable to get sued. I know of a lady who was hospitalized with a life threatening systemic infection that her doctor’s could not figure out…until she mentioned she had recently made her own lotion without a preservative. Your lotions and creams begin to go “bad” long before you can actually see it. If you have a scratch and slather mold or bacteria infested cream all over it then you are playing with fire. It happens far more than we know!

I hope that helped and I hope you don’t think I’m being snippy at you. I’m not, but it really ticks me off when I see people giving out these great recipes and then not giving truthful information regarding preservatives. If you’re going to do this kind of thing then you need to do your research, IMO.

Oh, and probably the reason why you’re having such a hard time with this recipe in particular is the green tea. I’ve seen that when you start infusing water or oils with herbs, or tea bags, then they go bad much quicker. You can still use it, but you need to use a good preservative.

Please reference this website for any and all information you could possibly want or need in regards to making your own skin creams and lotions. She is a chemist, a professional, and pretty much a genius in my book! There are also a lot of really great recipes on there. I have a website too but I’m not going to put myself in her league. Good luck.

Thanks Michelle. I caught the moldy eye cream before it was sold. This just caught me by surprise. I think I will make it without the tea and use a preservative as suggested. Even without the tea, it will be a good cream since it has other good ingredients. I have been to the swiftcraftymonkey site before and agree it is a good site. Thanks again.

  53. Avatar

Janet, yes it’s a good recipe even without the green tea. You can actually buy a green tea extract if you really wanted to try it with the benefits of the tea. I’ve personally never tried it before but it’s one of many ingredients on my “list” to try some day. You know what I like to use in my creams? Hydrosols. Specifically rose water. I want to try using orange blossom water too. I just love how the rose water makes the cream silkier. You don’t even have to use a lot. I usually take the amount of water called for in the recipe and use half or even 1/4 rose water and the rest distilled water. If you do it like that whatever scent you’re using will cover the rose scent. Good luck with your recipe and your business. 🙂

    Hi There,

Can you recommend another preservative that I can buy on e-bay.

The store you recommended does not ship to Israel, and there is no NeoDefend on eBay or Amazon.

Thank you for your great advises and receipts they are just wonderful

  56. Avatar

Since I’m lazy, and don’t have a mixer, could you guide me on creating a recipe that would be poured into a lip balm tube and dabbed on?

  57. Avatar

OH…also…since vit E and lavender have shown to be antibacterial (and it is a recommended practice to squeeze a vit e capsule into a new bottle of any type of oil to keep it from going rancid)…why would you need an added preservative? Also working in small batches would seem to negate the concern over rancidity.

    • Primally Inspired

Hi Cherrie! Before Jenni revised the recipe, she didn’t include the preservative, but a few people mentioned mold was growing on their eye creams at about 3 or 4 weeks. So she updated the recipe to include a preservative. If you don’t want to include it, you could make a smaller batch and also store the cream in the fridge. It still should be used within a few weeks, though.

      • Avatar

Can anyone suggest a suitable preservative as NeoDefend and Natapres appear to be unavailable in the UK.
        Many thanks

How much green tea extract would I need to use instead of green tea bags?

  59. Avatar

    hey there
I’m planning to try this but I don’t have a hand blender. Is there any reason a food processor wouldn’t work (other than creating a greasy mess in the food processor!) I don’t really want to buy anything else if I don’t have too!
    Thanks

I made this today, following the recipe exactly and it could not have come out better!,I DID ADD 2 drops of Rose Oil bc it’s my “go to” essential oil for skin care.

The consistency is wonderful, not overly oily and it blended and did not separate on the first time which amazed me! I used 2 cup sized Pyrex measuring cups in one large Dutch oven so both mixtures would heat up evenly. Not sure if this could be the problem some women are having with the separation of the oil and water!! Jenni stated that both mixtures had to be the same temp and using one pot to boil water was a big help with that.

I also strained the green tea bc some leaves had come out of the bag and there was some residue. I’m sure it’s fine but it didn’t look appealing.

I used a small amount on my eyes and just had to use it on my whole face. This is the first cream Ichave made and my skin is so much softer than when I use serums that I’ve created

I think the neo defend will help the cream to keep but with 4 ounces, I’m just going to use it all over my face and give half to my mom to try.

Thanks for the recipe, Jenni!! I loved making it, using it and look forward to seeing how my skin looks in a few weeks.

    Hi,
Is it better to use the stick part of the hand mixer, or the whisk attachment?

with all the questions about how to preserve– has anyone tried using a little fresh lemon juice to preserve? It works in foods and also delay the oxidation time, so maybe it would work in this cream? And maintain the all natural aspect . Great recipe! Thanks for sharing.

Lemon juice is not an effective preservative. I would definitely just go with a preservative to be safe, especially when applying to the eye area. It would be awful to get any bacteria in there. Preservatives are only 0.5%-2.0% of the formulation, so it is best to go with one and be safe. I am HUGE into all-natural, but I won’t take the risk of bacteria growth by using anything other than a preservative. I actually prefer NataPres over NeoDefend, but they’re both great options I think. I hope this helps!

Hi, i am wondering can i replace the green tea with rose water? Has anyone tried it?

I LOVE your website! Can I use this cream for my whole face or do you recommend it only for the eye area? Will I break out if I use it anywhere else? And do you know if this might cause milia? Thanks!

I love this cream. It smells wonderful and feels so moisturizing, light, and cool (I keep mine in the fridge). I messed it up the first time with beeswax, but saved it by reheating and adding the emulsifying wax. I used a technique I found elsewhere by letting the oils get cloudy and then gradually incorporating the other ingredients. That technique worked really well. After using it a few times on my eyes, I tried it on slightly dry areas of my face. It works great!

Thanks for the updated info on preservatives! Also, clarification – a vasodilator opens, or dilates, blood vessels; it may make you a bit rosy from the increased blood flow, but it doesn’t mean that it tightens skin.
Also, what can I substitute for lavender oil? I really hate the smell. Thanks

Just so you guys know if you don’t want to steep the tea because you don’t want water in your product (taking out water will mean that you don’t need an emulsifier) then you can steep loose leaf tea in the oil you are going to use, however this can take weeks depending on how strong you want it! I use this when I make my eye serums that I sell 🙂

Made this today & it turned out great. I added 1/2 tbs organic unrefined shea butter, substituted 1/2 tsp leucidal liquid as the all natural preservative instead of Neo Defend and used the following organic essential oils: 3 drops lavender, 3 drops sacred frankincense, 3 drops blue chamomile, 3 drops helichrysum. I have it stored in a glass container in the fridge and I love it!

Hi Jennifer! I have never heard of Neofend. Could you use something else in it’s place?

Very nice recipe! Thanks for sharing!

Hi! I whipped this yesterday and the result is amazing. Fluffy, light, and it is quickly absorded by my skin. I just began to use emulsifying wax and it helps so much in the texture of lotion and creams. A gentle preservative also helps me not worry about my cream going bad. Thanks so much for sharing this!

Hi there. Just starting to whip up my own balms and such so Ive just discovered this recipe. Apologies if this has already been addressed. Could you infuse the oil with the tea bag, then not use water at all? Planning on using a little meadowfoam seed oil to help keep it fresh too. Thanks

Hi Christine, that’s a great idea and what I’ve done in the past to omit needing a preservative. It works well, BUT the consistency/texture is not the same as intended, even though it works the same. As written, this eye cream is light and fluffy and super nice feeling on your skin. If you omit the water, it’s more of a thick salve. Hope that helps!

    Hi Jenni!
I had a question I was hoping you could help me with. I would love To make this eye cream! I have heard rose hip oil should not been used if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. In which case I wouldn’t be able to use it. Do you have another product I could use in place of the rose hip that works almost as wel?? I thought it wouldn’t hurt to ask 🙂
    Thanks so much!

This eye firming cream is AMAZING! I use it on my whole face? I just made my second batch and this time I used a red raspberry/pomegranate green tea, it is a gorgeous pink! This is so creamy and non-greasy, best recipe I have found so far!?
