Not only is the gift super cute and simple to make, but this Brightening Face Mask is seriously the bomb.
I’ve been using homemade clay masks for years and love what clay has done for my skin. Clay makes my skin so clear, smooth, soft and radiant. Love!
But this Clay Brightening Mask recipe is a bit different….and dare I say….even better?! I think so!
That’s because I added a bit of hibiscus powder to the clay.
And hibiscus powder is like a miracle worker for the skin! Here’s why….
Skin Benefits of Hibiscus
Did you know that hibiscus is known as the natural Botox plant? It’s true! Skin experts confirm that hibiscus contains oligopeptides which have been shown to have dramatic wrinkle smoothing properties!
In Ayurveda, hibiscus is well known to soothe and bring out the natural glow of the face. It’s high in alpha hydroxy acids which promote smooth, bright and younger looking skin.
And it’s even been used successfully with eczema and other skin ailments! That’s some serious flower power!
Hibiscus also:
- helps to even out the texture in your face
- soothes skin
- improves skin elasticity
- softens skin
- brightens skin
I use THIS organic Hibiscus Powder – I love how bright it is!
Skin Benefits of Kaolin Clay
Kaolin Clay is the other star ingredient in this Brightening Mask recipe.
I opted to use Kaolin Clay because it’s the gentlest of facial clays and suited for all skin types. It’s even gentle enough for sensitive and mature skin.
Kaolin Clay:
- brightens
- gently exfoliates
- deep cleanses
- increases circulation
- reduces appearance of pores
- tones
- tightens
I use THIS Kaolin Clay.
Brightening Face Mask Results
This Brightening Face Mask packs a powerful punch! You’ll notice a healthy glow to your skin after your very first use. Over a few weeks with continued use (1-2X a week), you’ll notice a big difference in the quality of your skin….say hello to clear, bright, fresh and flawless skin 🙂
Enjoy that beautiful, glowing skin!
Brightening Face Mask Recipe:
- 3 parts Kaolin Clay (I use THIS)
- 1 part Hibiscus Powder (I use THIS)
- Mix together 3 parts Kaolin Clay to 1 part Hibiscus Powder. Store in an airtight jar. Keeps for 2 years.
- Mix together 1 tablespoon mask with 2 teaspoons water until it forms a smooth paste.
- Apply a thick layer to the face using circular motions. Leave mask on for 15 minutes. Rinse well. Apply moisturizer and enjoy that soft, glowing skin!
To make a cute gift presentation, I layered the Kaolin Clay and Hibiscus Powder in the jar so it looks like a candy cane 🙂 I use THESE jars.

Wow, Kelly…I just learned something! I knew Hibiscus was great internally (as a tea) but didn’t know it could be used like this. Thanks for the info…cannot wait to try this! I am overdue to a mask! And sooooo happy to see you posting again:)
I love hibiscus tea, too, Elizabeth! Hope you are doing fantastic!
I didn’t know hibiscus was great for the skin either!
The more you know I guess 🙂
– Love your blog btw –
Thank you, Trysh!
This is such a great mask! My usual face mask was not in the budget and I came across this. I didn’t have high expectations because it seemed so simple, but wow! It makes my skin feel so nice and radiant. I am so glad to have this and recommend it to many people!
Awesome, Anna! I love this mask, too and am so happy you have found a good, inexpensive replacement for your store bought mask 🙂
Thank you. This was very easy to make and it makes my skin so nice. I will be making this again.
So happy to read your comment, Sylvia!
Just wanted to say how much I love this face mask. I tried everything to get clear skin and this worked better than my prescriptions. I use it 4 times a week and it cleared my skin in about 2 weeks. It truly does give a nice glow, too. Thank you!!!
Oh, that is wonderful, Erika!
Actually hibiscus is very great for hair growth too. I use it to dye my hair though since I’m super afraid of the salon dying where they bleach hair I’ve heard so. But thank you very much for this face mask recipe since I’ve never been able to find an appropriate hibiscus face mask. It’s really great.
Thanks
So cool about it being good for hair growth, too! Thanks for the tip 🙂
