Treat your cracked and chapped lips to this moisturizing and nourishing Coconut Sugar Lip Scrub for kissably soft, smooth lips!
Coconut Sugar Lip Scrub Recipe
This DIY Lip Scrub recipe using coconut sugar and coconut oil is rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, amino acids, fatty acids to keep your lips healthy, soft, smooth and moisturized! It’s so simple to make and the best remedy for chapped or cracked lips that I’ve tried.
Back in January, my husband and I visited Utah for the first time. Wow, what an absolutely gorgeous state! Much to my surprise, the altitude change didn’t bother us. We even went for a long, all day hike the day after we arrived and we both felt great (I think our infrared sauna is to thank for that!). But the super dry Utah air made my skin and lips SO dry. My poor little lips – they were so cracked and chapped.
I was applying chapstick (I used THESE natural, organic chapsticks) for what seemed like every hour and it just wasn’t helping my extremely chapped lips. I even increased my intake of healthy fats, which did end up majorly helping my dry skin, but unfortunately my lips didn’t get the same relief. (I ingested 1 tablespoon of coconut oil each day while I was out there to help with my dry skin).
So when I got home to Pennsylvania, I whipped up a simple DIY lip scrub out of coconut oil and coconut sugar as a natural remedy to fix my dry, cracked lips. And wow, what a difference! That coconut sugar lip scrub worked even better than I had hoped! I’ve tried a lot of white sugar lip scrubs and various store bought lip scrubs in the past and none can compare to this Coconut Sugar Lip Scrub recipe. Just one application and my lips felt like new again. No more cracks, no more dryness. Just insanely moisturized and soft lips that lasted. Love, love, love!
Ever since then, I’ve been using my coconut sugar lip scrub to get perfectly smooth, kissably soft lips. I love it so much! This lip scrub is gentle enough that you can use it every day, but you’ll probably find you don’t need to because it works so well. And now I want to share my super simple recipe with you because it made such a big difference for me. I thought you might want to know about it, too 🙂
Coconut Sugar + Coconut Oil is like magic for dry, chapped lips!
While the coconut sugar exfoliates and nourishes lips, the coconut oil drenches the lips with moisture. The fats in coconut oil give the skin and lips a healthy, smooth and even tone. Coconut oil is also rich in Vitamin E, which is well known to provide many healthy skin benefits.
Coconut Sugar Skin Benefits
Most homemade lip scrub recipes call for regular white, cane sugar or brown sugar. And while it’s true that these sugars are good exfoliants for dead skin, they just don’t provide any vitamins or minerals that can truly nourish the skin. But coconut sugar is different! Coconut sugar contains some wonderful nutrients to nourish, moisturize and protect the skin and lips.
Coconut sugar not only gently exfoliates, but it provides vitamins, minerals (iron, zinc, calcium, and potassium), amino acids, polyphenols and antioxidants to nourish and support healthy skin and lips! Coconut sugar also contains the B Vitamins and amino acids. When B vitamins and amino acids are applied topically, they are known to help the skin retain moisture and provide softer and smoother skin with less dryness.
Which Coconut Sugar Should I Use?
To gain the most benefit, look for coconut sugar that’s been processed using low temperatures or is labeled unrefined to ensure the beneficial enzymes and nutrients remain intact. THIS coconut sugar is the brand I use – it’s unrefined and sustainably grown. I also use coconut sugar for baking! It’s a low glycemic, healthier option and is a 1:1 replacement for regular sugar or brown sugar.
Coconut Sugar Lip Scrub Recipe:
- 2 teaspoons coconut sugar (I use THIS)
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil (I use THIS)
- Mix the coconut sugar and the coconut oil together until well combined. It should resemble wet sand. Put the mixture in a small container. I use THESE .25 ounce glass containers.
- To use, apply a small amount to your finger. Using your finger, rub your lips in small circular motions for about 30 seconds. Rub off with a washcloth or paper towel. Enjoy your super soft lips! This lip scrub is gentle enough to use daily, but you'll most likely find that you don't need to do it that often because it works so well. I have been using it about once a week. The remaining lip scrub can be kept in a cupboard for up to 2 years.
I hope you love this Coconut Sugar Lip Scrub as much as I have! It makes a wonderful and very gentle face and neck scrub, too. You’ll have to give it a try and tell me what you think!
P.S. If you like this lip scrub, you’ll have to try my all-time favorite face scrub recipe: Homemade Coffee Face Scrub and Mask (it’s the best!!!).

Thanks for this, Kelli! I’ve been wondering what I could use naturally. You saved the day. 🙂

Can Essential Oils be added to this?
Yes, definitely!
My lips tend to become chapped easily no matter the season and I have sensitivities to many beauty products so I decided to give this natural approach a try. So easy to make and my lips felt so smooth afterwards. Thanks for the awesome idea! I will continue to use as needed.
